The direct wash is integrated along the run from the tested distribution in NST8C-TW-10W-4000K.ies, which measures one metre of tape, and the fascia ends it 12 in out: a ray that clears a 2 in lip 4 in away cannot climb higher than that by the time it reaches the ceiling. Past that line the ceiling is lit by the pocket alone. 55% of the tape lands on the wall behind it and on the inside of the fascia, and a pocket painted flat white hands enough of it back that about 76% of the tape’s lumens leave the cove — which is why a cove reads as a flood rolling out of the pocket rather than as a beam. That return is an ESTIMATE, at an assumed 0.8 reflectance for the pocket; the direct column is the tested file and geometry, and neither counts the ceiling’s own bounce back into the room. This 5 m run delivers 100% of what an endless one would at this gap, and the plane along the run is taken as Lambertian, which is what the file measures it to be.
